Hello everyone, it's that time again where we reinvent ourselves and repeat in the mirror that we will live up to our value. That we will stop shaming ourselves for not being perfect and take charge of our lives.
Why the big changes now? Therapy was a start, and really examining what sparks joy and what feels good to me. I want to be good to myself and those around me. I want to learn how to give the benefit of the doubt to our community. There are others like me, and you that deserve that respect. Here I am buckling down and developing my brand and to bring something different to the industry. As an artist it is extremely challenging to value yourself and your work, especially when comparing to the work of others. Now I have found my voice, and I can move forward with my work. I'm not trying to break any records or go viral right now, just looking to have fun and make amazing things.
Okay, lets talk about some fun stuff! Lets talk about Bass Therapy!
First up! Cuntface, I mean Funtcase!
What a show this was! Jayoh & Endo did an extremely good job brining the appetizers to the table. They were cooking up a heavy feast of strangeness and bangers. As they went off I just found myself warming up for the first 15-20 minutes and getting reacquainted with my rig. Earlier that day at the office I did the ballsy move to update Resolume before the show. Last time, I faced some bugs. This time thought I was running at full speed. Halfway through the set it got weird and heavy and I decided to go in and had a blast matching that energy. Everyone was enjoying themselves so early in the night. Asix had me curious, got his visuals last minute, and they were rips from video game trailers. WWII dogfights and the such. Not going to lie, the war time air combat went perfectly with the heavy epic riddim dubstep tracks. Definitely wasn't a let down, but a surprisingly inspiring moment to take a subject I haven't seen at a rave. Nice job comrade. Gold Uzi def is never a let down and brought the heat. However, I decided to let myself breathe through most of it considering I wasn't feeling well. Amazing set, nice new visuals partnered with XILE. IYKYK.
Prior to the show I sat down with Sriracha Man to help organize Mini Handz and his visuals for his set. A good rule of thumb is if you want to have visuals run in a line or in a preferred sequence, you title the visuals with a number in front of them. 1.VisualName 2.VisualName 3.VisualName so on and so on... If you have more then 20 visuals then I suggest switching to a number system like 021VN, 022VN, 023VN so on and so forth. It will create a clear message to the VJ. If they're longer clips then the VJ can watch the Transport when about they need to transfer to the next visual with the tracks. I had fun doing their visuals, they were fun, bizarre and completely out of pocket.
By the time Funtcase came on, I had my feedback loop mastered. I really wanted to capture that face and really feedback that filthy texture. It is absolutely imperative to work with the LD before the show to prep to light the artist correctly. Also auto masking and inverting the feedback loop will help you clean up the overly blown out background. I don't have it down as a perfect science yet, but that's the art of it. Funtcase was a little rough on my ears with the heavy distortion, and couldn't hear most of the tracks a quarter of the way through. Super unfortunate. It honestly didn't matter because once the scratchy filter went away it was GAME ON! Had a lot of fun with his super nasty visuals!
Now we prepare for PHASE ONE! One of my bucket list artists. I didn't get to do visuals with him at the rink last time he was here in Sacramento. When Sulphonic told me we had Phase One coming through I was super psyched! Right now Xhale Ghost and I have some visuals being prepped for the show, and doing a special flyer! Should be an excellent show! Also I am SUPER excited for SO & SO to be coming through! So & So has always been a personal favorite ever since she introduced herself to me at The Boardwalk during a Bass Therapy show. What a fantastic, honest, kind, respectful, authentic person! There's always something that stuck with me, Stan Lee saying True Believers. Knowing people like Subphonic, So & So, and a few others, maybe even you... I get it... Those are the True Believers. That is what I'm talking about. Those who work true to their hearts and try to keep as authentic as possible. Blessed to have a place where I can express myself, and people know who I am. Anyways! Hope to see you at Phase One on the 7th!
